🗼 Landmark spotsThe Aga Khan Palace is a majestic building located in Pune in the Maharashtra region of India. This gracious residence was built in 1892 for Prince Aga Khan III in a 14.8 acres (6.5-hectare) park northeast of the city center, which borrows from the Victorian aesthetic. The palace is closely linked to the Indian freedom movement, as it served as a prison for Mahatma Gandhi and his companions.
The building is considered a monument of national importance by the Indian government in 2003. The Aga Khan palace has become a monument to the memory of Mahatma Gandhi, the museum inside has a rich collection of paintings and photographs of important incidents in his life. There is also a wide variety of personal objects and a letter written by Gandhi himself. The samadhi, which contains part of Gandhi's ashes, is a relic of high importance in India.
You can also visit the gardens and take a breath of fresh air by strolling among the trees and flower beds. You can even have a picnic in the garden to enjoy.
Many pilgrims come to visit this house full of history. If you like history and architecture, it is a haven of peace that you must visit.
After a visit to the palace, you can walk around the city of Pune, very popular with tourists. It is an equally popular city with young people who are extremely outgoing, its lively nightlife with upscale pubs and bars, the college atmosphere all around you might think that this is the only aspect of the city. But as hip as the heart of Pune is, its outskirts offer equally archaic and historic buildings that seem to have trapped all the essence of the past with them.
There is a small entrance fee to enter the palace. Discounts are available for children. The cost of entering this magnificent palace is Rs 15 for Indian adults and Rs 5 for children. Foreigners pay Rs 200 to enter.
The palace opens its doors to visitors from morning until early evening. It closes at lunchtime.
